Hasbro has announced Dan Ayoub’s promotion to president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games. Currently responsible for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, he will take up the role on November 2, 2026. The appointment ends the search for a successor to John Hight, who stepped down as president in July.

Ayoub has been with Wizards of the Coast since 2022 and had led D&D for just over a year. Before joining the company, he spent 11 years at Microsoft. He will be the first internal candidate promoted to the presidency of Wizards.

In his new role, Ayoub will oversee franchises including Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, Duel Masters, Exodus and Warlock. The change places Hasbro’s card games, RPGs and digital projects under his leadership. For fans of Magic and D&D, it represents a change at the top involving two of Wizards’ biggest brands.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks highlighted Ayoub’s experience with games and team-building when discussing the promotion. According to the executive, developing talent within the company is among his priorities.

Ayoub has long been a fan of D&D and Magic: The Gathering: he learned to play Magic in 1993, the year the game was released. During his time leading D&D, Luke Gygax resumed working with Wizards on the development of new adventures and books. Hasbro has not yet announced who will replace Ayoub at the helm of the franchise.
